Log construction is a form of timber construction where the walls of the home are constructed of tree trunks with rounded sides that are laid horizontally on top of one another. Log homes or log cabins use logs that have not been milled into conventional lumber to construct the walls and ceilings. Although log cabin style homes have a strong association with rustic and rural North America and were first constructed beginning in 1638, historically log construction has its roots in the timber-rich regions of Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.Log home blueprints have been a symbol of humble origins in American politics since the early 19th century.
